Oh, look, another article of impeachment:

The U.S. State Department allowed at least seven foreign governments to rent luxury condominiums in New York’s Trump World Tower in 2017 without approval from Congress, according to documents and people familiar with the leases, a potential violation of the U.S. Constitution’s emoluments clause.

Anyone want to bet that the cost of those condos was way more than his salary as president?

I see that article on Katie McHugh is gaining a lot of visibility out there. Still revolted to learn that she went to my college, though I guess the good thing is that, although she apparently started on her radical path there, it was mostly to do with feeling isolated as a conservative racist there.

Although my sympathy for her is limited, it’s worth noting that really, the atmosphere on the Right, and at Breitbart in particular, was all about encouraging her to more and more extreme opinions, even rewarding them, and only giving the occasional wag of the finger (accompanied by a wink) as she sunk lower and lower. Until, that is, they found her more useful as a sacrifice - then they tossed her out.

Same thing as Milo - find someone needy with no moral compass, build them up, encourage them to be ‘edgy’ and say the outrageous, then cut ‘em loose to drown after you’ve encouraged them to say and do things they can’t take back.

But you know, there are a whole lot of young people who feel isolated and lack a sense of belonging who DON’T become shills for Nazis. So, you know, fuck these guys.

But Trump lawyers blocked Trump—not because they thought Mueller unfair—but b/c they thought Trump would lie

They knew… they knew Trump would lie. Or, alternatively, he would present in a way that would make it inescapably clear that he has no grasp on reality and thus is unfit for office.

Wouldn’t that have been a hell of a disclosure in the Mueller Report? “We interviewed the president, and in each meeting it appeared as if he had no grasp of basic facts, not only related to the incidents under investigation but with respect to things as simple as the color of the paint on the walls of the room.”

And

So get ready. Trump is going to order the Justice Department to launch an investigation of his opponent — probably more than one — and Barr will likely do so eagerly. It doesn’t matter how trivial the substance is, as we learned in 2016 when the fact that Hillary Clinton used the wrong email became the dominant issue of the campaign. Did Elizabeth Warren shake hands with a guy whose cousin’s neighbor dated a mobster? The Justice Department will investigate. Did Bernie Sanders have a congressional intern whose police officer dad fixed a parking ticket for him? The FBI is on it. Did Kamala Harris prosecute someone whose lawyer’s husband got a state contract? Investigations are ongoing.

What a load of horseshit. Love that they criticize Mueller for not making a simple yes/no decision on whether to pursue criminal obstruction of justice charges while not recognizing that he was expressly prevented from doing so by DOJ regs. I find it likely that they would not like it if he did make a recommendation and this letter further opens it up for Mueller to be asked the simple question: “But for existing DOJ regulations, would you have recommended the President be indicted for obstruction?”

The letter also ignores that Mueller was tasked with something far broader than simply whether the President is a criminal. He was directed to investigate whether and to what extent Russia interfered with the election.

John Kapoor, former CEO of Insys Pharmaceuticals, along with four others, was found guilty of racketeering and bribery today in Boston. Their crimes were basically bribing doctors to prescribe a fentanyl spray called Subsys and lying to insurers about the patients’ needs for the drug, which is indicated for cancer patients with breakthrough pain. Some of the patients never had cancer.

It’s definately Farakkan who is absolutely a right winger. he gets branded a leftist because he hates white people.

He’s anti gay, anti abortion, ant feminism and even anti government welfare ‘handouts’. The only reason he gets branded a leftist is because he hates white people.

There’s nothing left wing let alone liberal about him.

Greg Dunston and Marie Mckinzie lived on Oakland’s streets for almost 10 years, pushing their carts around with all their belongings and sleeping in the doorway of an Alameda County building.

But for the past three months, the couple have lived among the wealthy — on a nearly $4 million property in one of the Bay Area’s most exclusive neighborhoods in Piedmont. The homeowner, Terrence McGrath, did something few in his position would dare do: He opened his doors to homeless people in need.

Poor, black homeless people — in a mostly white, rich neighborhood.

Dunston and Mckinzie are more than turning heads whenever they venture out onto the sidewalk of Hampton Road — he’s 61 with a stooped walk and she’s 53 with a slight limp. They’re prompting phone calls to the local police.

“My officers are very familiar with who’s living in that house and what (the homeowner’s) trying to do,” Piedmont police Capt. Chris Monahan told me. “When people have called, we’ve not even responded. We’ve called them and said, ‘Oh no, those are the people that live in the house. (The homeowner’s) trying to help them.’ “

Because they know that Trump cannot speak under oath without either contradicting himself or other sworn testimony.

I think FP is tough because there’s the non-interventionalist left that sounds like the old right like Taft and the internationalist right which isn’t that different from the Wilsonians. I remember Bush often talked that he expected he would be viewed close to what Trump would be. And then you have the realists. Obama’s FP seemed to resemble Bush I more than Bush II.

Because they know that Trump cannot speak under oath without either contradicting himself or other sworn testimony.

His mouth is a perjury trap that will snap shut as soon as he takes an oath to tell the (don’t make me say it!) truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth

We have GOP precedent to the effect that a sitting president can be questioned under oath, using a subpoena if needed, in a special prosecutor investigation.

So why didn’t this happen in this case? I find it impossible to believe that Mueller thought Trump’s written answers were so good there was no need to follow up on them.

Therefore this part of the investigation was kneecapped by the political appointees — some combination of Rosenstein and Barr.

Yeah some of the question phrasing I dislike. Like it’s a waste of time to rehabiliate some prisoners. Yeah I agree with that sort of but I also acknowledge that most prisoners will be getting out of prison at some point so it’s best to treat them humanely for obvious reasons but also prepare them for a life outside of jail.

Yeah, that’s one that jumped out at me. It might be a waste to rehabilitate some prisoners, but that’s different than saying it’s a waste to even try. One is based on experience and observation, the other is based on just writing them off because reasons.

Right. It’s why while I identify as a liberal, I don’t like being pigeon holed to what my solutions are. Some things I think the feds need to be involved in, some the state and local authorities, some the free market and individual, and some all or a mix.

So, here are two questions that can be looked at a number of ways:

1) Because corporations cannot be trusted to voluntarily protect the environment, they require regulation.

2) The only social responsibility of a company should be to deliver a profit to its shareholders.

My view is that companies are tools for making money, and thus to expect them to do anything but maximize profit for shareholders is to expect too much of them. That’s why you can’t trust them and need to regulate them.

Would it be NICE if they could be trusted, and so you don’t need to regulate them? Sure. It would also be nice if I could eat all the ice cream I want and not get fat.

So, this would lead me to agree with BOTH #1 and #2, but I’m sure they’re viewed as conflicting statements. Agreeing with 1 makes you a Lib’rul, and #2 makes you a Conservaturd.

This one, however, is the one that doesn’t give any neutral or no opinion options to any of the questions and words some of them horribly.

The wolf will eat the rabbit, because he’s a wolf and that’s what wolves do. You might, if you started when the wolf was young, train him to protect the rabbit and not eat it, but it’s working against its nature.

You see, to me companies are not ethical entities. They’re tools, and tools aren’t ethical beings. You have to control them, or they’ll cut your arm off, because they’re tools and that’s what they do.

You see? It doesn’t mean I think companies are evil, because I don’t think you can apply human standards to a tool.

If a company does an evil thing, it’s because one or more humans did something bad to further the profits of the company, for the benefit of the owners. The person(s) deserve punishment, and the owners who chose the person(s) deserve at least SOME punishment as well, above and beyond simply losing money. It’s interesting that most of us fall in about the same range on economic issues. In my case, this reflects my admiration for regulated/capitalist European economies like Sweden and Norway. These demonstrate that heavy investment in human potential yields profit for all. Right wing social darwinists in the US, ie Republicans, seem not to realize that these “socialist” economies have been that way only since shortly after the end of World War II. The same is true for the UK, which still had food rationing and horse drawn milk wagons when I was born there in 1949, and is now rapidly leaving us behind in standard of living. In the meantime the US stagnates and slides backward.

Had to page this because: de-platforming works!

Here’s some of the charming free speech they want to continue to use social media platforms to spread:

right-wing meme pages such as @the_typical_liberal and @unclesamsmisguidedchildren share Infowars content via IGTV, Instagram’s long-form-video hub. @the_typical_liberal has posted several videos and images claiming proof that the Christchurch, New Zealand, shooting was a “false flag.” Other Instagram accounts suggested by the platform falsely claim that Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey is secretly connected to the Clintons, who feed baby blood to George Soros, and that a new bill would “engrave Planned Parenthood’s abortion number” onto the back of all student-ID cards for girls over the age of 12.

About the same as the last time I took that test. It’s way too simplistic to mean much but yeah, hard left social democrat is me.

For me:
Economic Left/Right: -6.63
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -8.21

But my publicly vocal opposition to Bernie and the Bros makes me a “neoliberal corporate shill” to friends of friends.

Yep it’s how he got the DNC’s attention. Personally they did the right thing replacing Henry Wallace with Truman. McCarthyism would have been even worse had you had Wallace.

Probably quite true. If Wallace had become President when Roosevelt died in 1945, it would be really likely (among other eventualities) that he would have been soundly defeated by Thomas Dewey in 1948. Which would likely have meant an Administration probably dominated by the hardcore old-line-isolationist wing of the GOP. Who would have probably gone all-in on Tailgunner Joe’s red-baiting from a position of power, rather than opposition. Not a pleasant scenario.

Not this liberal. Those days are long gone. Literally and figuratively, Nazis should be punched in the face.

I will take that in more in the figurative sense.

But what we must not do is to begin to see fascism or white supremacism as any sort of acceptable points along the political spectrum or see these people as individuals with ideas that must be respected and treated as anything but anathema to everything America stands for, and as a threat to our very freedoms and values.

If that involves an occasional punch in the face, then that is simply a necessary act of self-defense for our nation.

Do I offend you in any way? Too old/young, fat/thin, melanin content, American/immigrant…

Really, anything at all? Think good now, take your time…

Last question:

Will you competently treat me and save my life if necessary? If yes, here’s a form, I brought a notary and a lawyer, sign here.

Is it coming to this?

Need to do it for the pharmacist

I had already linked to the article, because I think it is an excellent expose of how the Trumpkin Right, and the white nationalist movement in particular, prey on lonely losers whom they radicalize by providing the group identity and validation they desperately desire, while encouraging them to ever greater excess, then discard them like used condoms when they become more useful as exiles, allowing the movement to say, “See? We’re not THAT bad!”

Also interesting was how she got involved in Chuck Johnson’s schemes till even he wouldn’t have her anymore.

Plus there’s the whole, “Hey, look! There really ARE permanent consequences for being a hateful racist shitbag!” angle.

But, YMMV, always.

Yep. I do wish Truman had chosen a younger running mate. There’s a lot I admire about Truman but outside Marshall, his delegation skills were weak compared to FDR and other Democrats.

True this. Though better right IN the center than right OF center, I suppose…..
But yeah: the four-choice answer format isn’t all that subtle. FWIW, I scored at:

Economic Left/Right: - 4.75
Social Libertarian/Auth. - 5.95

Which puts me right near the middle of the bottom left-hand quadrant of the chart. Which I guess places me, politically, as the guy with the top hat and musket on the left of Delacroix’s Liberty Leading the People….

I happen to agree. You don’t tweet shit like that and then do one interview and think that clears you. That said, I do think some redemption is possible but it’s going to take actions and not words. She still has a lot of growing up to do from what I gathered from the article. She still thinks a lot of what her and her old pals did was just “jokes.” We’re on the same page about her.
